The Name “Like One Of These”

I would hope the strange name “Like One Of These” would arouse your interest and curiosity. This name reflects my deepest values—ones I believe all humanity should share. I believe it is the answer to true satisfaction and happiness in this life. I recognize that not all will share my view; in fact, many are against it. Yet, I only want to share what has changed my life and so many others, and can change yours as well.

The Story Behind “Like One of These”

The phrase “Like One Of These” comes from a story of a teacher—a very famous one at that. He had many students, but a few were special. They weren’t special in any academic way; in fact, there were plenty of others far more learned than them. The only thing that made them special was the fact that he chose them. However, his special students were very prideful of this fact. They often discussed amongst themselves who was smarter, or better, or whatever else students fight about.

On one particular occasion, they were arguing about this and figured, why not just ask the teacher who was the best student? He didn’t say it was one of his chosen group of students, nor did he say it was any of the learned, nor the already established and esteemed in their field. Instead, he called a child and set him in the midst of the students and said, “Unless you become like one of these, you shall never become the greatest student.”

The Words of Christ

As some of you have realized, this story is from the Gospel of Matthew. The lesson and words from which I receive the title “Like One Of These” come from the Son of God. Here are his exact words:

“And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, ‘Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.'”
Matthew 18:2-4

This website is all about how to become like a child in the eyes of God. Do not mistake this endeavor for trying to become childish and immature. As Jesus also said:

“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”
Matthew 10:16

This website seeks to search out what it means to become a true child of God. We lose so many valuable traits as we grow up—our imagination, playful joy, trust, and humility.
